Toyko Charlie, 1950's

Back of photo reads: 'The world is full of strange and fascinating sights for tourists to see. Here, is Tokyo, a sandwich sign man is dressed up like Charlie Chaplin - to sell products from comic books to sukijaki. There are 300 of them in Tokyo, costumed as Groucho Marx, Buffalo Bill, etc., to attract attention. They also perform by leaping into canals, swinging from a trapeze above the streets, thrilling visitors.'
